Hadleigh Tennis Club Welcome Pack Information for prospective members. History Hadleigh Tennis Club can trace it’s origins back to 1911 when tennis was played on a court in Calais Street. However the Club was also involved with tournaments played on the Cricket Meadow as early as 1892. In 1954 the club played on 3 courts owned by Babergh District Council in Calais Street. In 1988 the Club moved to its present site at Layham Road playing on 3 hard courts that benefit from floodlights. With the help of Hadleigh Town Council who operate the Layham Road Sports Grounds, the Club developed a Clubhouse on the site in 1999. Facilities The club plays on 3 tarmacadam courts with floodlights. There is also a clubroom for the exclusive use of members, which includes men and women’s changing facilities. Each year the Club receives 4 pair of tickets for Wimbledon which are allocated to members by a draw. Playing Times

Team Play If you are interested in playing Team Tennis the Club enters Men’s, ladies and Mixed teams in the Ipswich and District Leagues both in the Summer and Winter. The following is an extract from the Hadleigh Community News to give you a flavour of the Club. As the summer season comes to an end Hadleigh Tennis Club has much to look back on with pride. Both the mixed and men’s teams have come top in their respective divisions of the Ipswich and District Tennis League. The competition was keen and “went to the wire” in the Men’s division where a last match win over the Next Generation 2 team was a decider and clinched the title for Hadleigh. Congratulations to all who played for the teams under the winning captainship of Jan Richards and Trevor Rowland. The Teams will be celebrating at the team dinner at the “White Hart” soon - an opportunity to thank our sponsors Ian and Gill for the team teas provided throughout the summer season. The task now gets harder for next year as the teams will be promoted up a division. Club play has been excellent throughout the summer with the blessing of some good weather. Membership has flourished but new members are always welcome, (see below). The last club tournament of the summer was held on Sunday 4 September being the traditional “President`s Cup”. This is a “Mexican” style tournament played more for fun than competition, offering the opportunity for the players to have a good lunch in the middle of the proceedings. However, the top scorer does receive the Ken Goddard Memorial Cup and Craig Randall can be seen in the photo with the trophy, accompanied by Celia Gordon, who was the top scoring lady and her dog “Tash” who did not enter the competition but came for Lunch! A good day was enjoyed by all with many thanks to all who helped organise the day.
